Healthier habits, tastier choices – and plenty of new goodies this month
This September, it’s all about the better swap. Think of it as spring-cleaning your pantry – out with the refined, processed and conventional, and in with nourishing, flavourful alternatives that support your health (and our local farmers).
Here’s what’s fresh, new, and back in stock this month.

🌿 Meet Our New Supplier: Adoré Nature
Adoré Nature is the vision of Andrew and Akane Doré, who left the corporate world in Japan to create an organic farm in KwaZulu-Natal. On their land, Villa Doré, they’ve restored life to the soil and now cultivate macadamias and bananas using organic practices that are kinder to the earth and more nourishing for us.
This month we’re introducing their range:
-
Green Banana Chips
-
Macadamia Chips
-
Organic Dry Roasted Whole Macadamia Nuts
Why GREEN banana chips?
Unlike the typical fried supermarket snack, green bananas are naturally rich in resistant starch – a prebiotic that feeds your good gut bacteria, helps regulate blood sugar, and keeps you satisfied for longer. They’re also full of potassium, magnesium, and fibre.
Better Swap: Ditch the ultra-processed crisps fried in seed oils and grab a bag of Adoré’s green banana chips – crunchy, savoury, and actually good for you.
Our fellow food clubs are already loving them. Here’s what two Cape Town food club hosts had to say:
“The macadamia and banana are both remarkably good. Perfect lunchbox snacks too. The macadamia is my favorite…. Sooooooo moreish.” – Laura Mc Allister (Silverhurst)
“My club likes the banana (think plantain chips not sweet) ones but maybe because those are the ones I like.” – Haley Price (Hout Bay)

And a big thank you to one our Gansbaai members, André de Kock, for sharing this story with me!
🥜 Talking of Nuts…
Joeline from The Fruit & Nutcase is taking a short break – but her goods will be back in October with all the usual favourites.
🍄 Shiitake Stars Return
-
The Real Food Factory is back with Jules’s one-of-a-kind shiitake preserves – olive-oil-based pesto, chutney, and the mild Shiitake Chilli Salsa (my personal go-to).
-
Bietjie Estate (Ruan) has expanded his fresh mushroom offering to include shiitake, oyster, and king oyster mushrooms.
Better Swap: Most supermarket pestos and sauces hide cheap, inflammatory seed oils and preservatives. Jules’s range uses clean ingredients and turns mushrooms into a nutrient-rich flavour bomb.
🍔 Burger Night, Reinvented
Go Slow has launched gluten-free brioche burger buns (4-pack). Try them with:
-
a juicy Farmer Angus burger patty,
-
a slice of Klein River cheese,
-
a dollop of shiitake chutney or chilli salsa.
Better Swap: If you struggle with wheat or want to avoid the inflammatory kick of refined rolls, these gluten-free brioche buns let you enjoy burger night without compromise.

🐖 Pork, Prosciutto & More
This month you can choose from a variety of pasture-raised pork cuts – chops, stews, or roasts – sourced from:
-
Overberg Pastures in Stanford (regenerative heroes), or
-
The BD Harvest (using biodynamic farming where animals never leave the farm).
And… Farmer Angus Prosciutto is finally back in stock!
Better Swap: Pasture-raised pork has healthier fat ratios, fewer toxins, and a much smaller environmental footprint compared to commercial pork. Better for your body, better for the animals and the planet.
🧀 Dairy Delights
-
Dairy Co has added a new Vanilla Flavoured Kefir, their feta is back, and don’t forget their famous paneer they brought back last month due to popular demand.
-
Dalewood has brought back their award-winning six-month matured Huguenot hard cheese. But note very limited stock!
Did you know? Kefir is a probiotic powerhouse – and good to add or swap with your usual yoghurts from time to time as a gut-friendly, lightly tangy option.
🥚 Spring = Duck Eggs
It’s duck egg season at Overberg Pastures. Available in 6- or 12-packs – but limited, so get your order in quick!
Did you know? Duck eggs are richer in protein, omega-3s, and vitamins than standard chicken eggs – and are prized by the French for fluffier bakes, too.
Better Swap: There’s nothing standard about pasture-raised eggs! Whether you’re trying duck eggs or your favourite chicken eggs, look for the nutrient-packed, pasture-raised eggs from our local suppliers, Eggcellent Eggs and Overberg Pastures.
🍵 Teas, Tonics & Treats
- Kombukarious has added Enmasse loose-leaf tea blends to their range, added to the beautiful, high quality Carmien teas newly added last month – perfect for slow, enjoyable, mindful sipping.
- Nanuki is back via The Wellness Initiative! With date syrup, apricot jam, Boom bars and more, their range is always made with clean ingredients – vegan, gluten-free, nut-free, and non-GMO.
Better Swap: Nanuki gives you indulgence without the refined sugar spike – treats that keep both your taste buds and your blood sugar happy.
🥑 Avos Are Back
After winter weather challenges up in Limpopo, we’ll now be able to enjoy creamy, nutty Reed avocados from Boschoek.
Better Swap: Avos are a nutrient-dense, healthy replacement for mayo or processed spreads – creamy goodness without the additives.
